If you missed the deal on woot.com on Tuesday, here’s another chance to snag a Memorex MVBD2510 Blu-ray player for under $150.
I mentioned this player in the last newspaper column I submitted to the syndicate, so the timing is good. Memorex’s PR firm is overnighting me a review unit so I will soon have more pictures and comments on its performance. If you clicked to see the full-size image you can see it’s certainly an attractive unit, with brushed metal on the front plate and soft blue lighting. Let’s hope it performs as well as it looks. There is no reason to have diminished expectations just because it is a budget unit. It was gratifying to see the Insignia Blu-ray player I have been recommending recently placed among the top three players tested by Consumer Reports, along with its Sylvania and Magnavox clones… same player, different names, so until I find the magazine I will not know why they placed the way they did since they are identical and swept the top three spots. They are all made by Japanese giant Funai and have proven to be some of the most solid, reliable players you can buy.
