Most receivers selling for under $500 only support Dolby Digital and DTS, the surround formats used on DVDs.  Unlike almost all other receivers, the Onkyo TX-SR605 also offers decoding for the advanced surround-sound formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA, which sound significantly better and are found on high-def movie discs.  It’s a huge advantage to have Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA decoding on your receiver, and the TX-SR605 has plenty more going for it.   With its clean, ample power (90 watts per channel, 7.1 channels) and great sound, it is a clear cut above anything at its price point and clearly the best buy out there in surround-sound receivers at its $499 price.  At $379.77 during One Call’s weekend sale,  it’s a tremendous bargain!
