Denon S-32 Networked Audio System

Tell A Friend!

The Denon S-32 is a premium table radio ideally suited to those who like to enjoy music from online  and computer-based sources.  It’s a bit pricey at a suggested retail price of $499 but unlikely to disappoint those willing to pay the asking price.

This label affixed to the top sums up the S-32′s capabilities.  You can connect it to a wireless network or through an Ethernet port and enjoy music from online sources such as Internet radio or Rhapsody, stream music from your PC, or use the integrated iPod port to enjoy your iPod’s music collection.  Audyssey equalization improves sound quality across the audible range, enhancing bass and spatial properties.

The S-32′s remote is quite simple for a device of its capabilities.

I spent some time testing the S-32 and found it to be quality all the way around.  It is as well-made as you would hope given the $499 price, is easy to set up and use, and sounds very good with all sources.  The S-32 has a very clean, precise sound that reminds me of the Polk iSonic radios.  It lacks the warmth and bass response of the Cambridge SoundWorks radios, so if you like warm sound the Cambridge will be a better choice.

This brings me to the only real objection to the Denon S-32: the $499 price.  The Polk iSonic is $349, the Cambridge SoundWorks radio is currently available for only $299.  Neither do network audio, but both have iPod docks and the Cambridge SoundWorks has video, too.  If you have to have network audio the Denon is a good choice, and can be had from Amazon.com for as little as $320.  It pays to shop around!
