Blu-ray Disc Review By Jerry Rutledge

Fans of the Stargate science fiction action adventure television series will want to add this  Blu-ray Disc™  to their movie collection.  It provides a conclusion to a major story line developed in seasons nine and ten of the hit cable series.  A handy play prelude option provides a short recap of seasons nine and ten to fans have not followed to bring them up to speed.

For those new to the series, the Stargate is technology created by The Ancients, that when “dialed in,” allows passage to numerous worlds and galaxies containing other active Stargates.  In Ark of Truth series regulars return – headstrong Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder), beautiful science genius Lt. Col. Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping), stoic Teal’c (Christopher Judge), ethical and contemplative archeologist Daniel Jackson (Michael Jackson), and scheming but gold hearted thief Vala Mal Doran (Claudia Black).

The Stargate team must follow clues to find the Ark of Truth before a powerful race of beings launch a full scale attack on Earth.  They must also deal with a traitor in their midst and the return of old foes.

The powerful race of beings that threaten the destruction of the Earth are The Ori.  The Ori are a race that splintered from The Ancients, the original creators of the Stargates.  The Ancients’ philosophy is the pursuit of free will.  The Ori philosophy is to dominate other cultures, although they profess to be righteous and true.  The Ori spread their will through Priors (monk like characters with telekinetic powers) and battleships containing armored, crusader-like soldiers.  The ethical dilemma is whether to use Ancient technology, The Ark of Truth, to convince the Ori’s followers that the Ori’s promises are false rather than allow them to reach the conclusion using their own free will.  Do the ends justify the means?

Extras include Uncovering the Arc of Truth a well produced featurette with commentary by the actors and by visual and special effects staff, fight coordinator and music composer.  Also included is The Ark of Truth: Stargate at ComicCon wherein some of the show’s stars answer fans questions.  In picture commentary is also available.

Stargate: The Ark of Truth can be purchased in a special collector’s set which also includes Stargate: Continuum. (See bottom Amazon link box below.)
