This epic romance has at its core a serious subject – how we treat the precious minutes of our lives.  The film takes place beginning after World War I.  It is beautifully directed by David Fincher.  Blu-ray captures the splendid detail of each period piece scene filmed by Claudio Miranda.  The aging / rejuvenating digital special effects in the film are breathtaking.

Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt) is born in New Orleans after World War I as a prematurely aged baby and is left at an old age home.  What is odd about Benjamin is his condition that he is aging backwards.  He is getting younger as time passes and others around him are growing older.  So he begins his early years with the mind of a child, but the body of an old man.

While at the old age home Benjamin becomes acutely aware of the mortality around him.  Many of its residents die while he is there and Benjamin, who is not going anywhere because of the frailty of his condition, learns to be a good listener.  His adventures and the people he meets make for an epic tale well worth watching.

The Blu-ray disc comes with many worthwhile extras.  Disc one containing the movie also contains a feature audio commentary with director David Fincher.  Disc two contains the film documentary “The Curious Birth of Benjamin Button.”  It is divided into four parts, each of which can be viewed separately (First, Second, Third Trimester and Birth).  These parts examine development of the movie project, interviews with the director and actors, behind the scenes footage, storyboarding, art direction, props and set design, special effects design, costume design, sound effects and musical score, and scenes from the film’s release.   Also included are two movie trailers and a booklet with an essay by Kent Jones.
