Systems of the week from my column going on this site
The past few weeks I have had a “System of the Week” segment in my Q&A column. It was very well receiver by readers and a lot of you are building some of the systems I suggested.
I am going to be putting the systems on permanent pages on this site. Here is the first one: $400 Component Stereo for AM/FM Records, CD, DVDs
Since this is a post rather than a page I am going to put its complete contents below so you can see what this and future pages will be like.
This is a breakdown of the stereo system I recommended in my newspaper column when I said, “…how about a nice sounding stereo music system, complete with USB turntable, for less than $400?”
Insignia NS-B2111 Speakers
Speakers: Start with the warm, crisp sounding Insignia NS-B2111 bookshelf speakers from Best Buy, $87.98. See them here: Insignia NS-B2111 Speakers
Receiver: Power them with a new Sherwood RX-4105 Stereo Receiver, which was recently improved with a cleaner amplifier section. It can be had for $79.99 at Amazon.com.
DVD/CD Player: DVD and CD playback will be well handled by Panasonic’s DVD-S38 DVD Player for $29.99.
Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB Turntable
Turntable: The crowning touch is the Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB turntable for $199.98.
Read my full review of the AT-LP120-USB.
Your total? Only $397.96 for a system that plays DVDs, CDs, vinyl records and can import the vinyl records into your computer. If you can spend just a tad more, speaker stands will make your system sound better and look better. Get some Sanus Systems BF-31B stands for the speakers for $30.97 and you are all set at a very affordable price.
Oh, don’t forget the speaker wire! Ordinary 16 gauge will do you fine.
