Samsung GX-10 10.2 megapixel digital SLR

Anyone who has read my column knows I am quite fond of Pentax digital SLRs, specifically the K100D and its big brother the K10D. The Samsung GX10 is a re-branded version of Pentax’s awesome 10.2 megapixel K10D digital SLR with a Schneider-Kreuznach branded version of Pentax’s 18-55 lens. At only $684.88 from jr.com, you can get the top-of-the-line model for little more than the price of a Pentax K100D kit! The menus are a bit different but all in all, this is the same camera as the $1,000 K10D, meaning it uses Pentax mount lenses and Pentax accessories.

Please note that compared to an entry level model, a more advanced camera like the GX10 can require a bit more user interaction to get the best results, noticeably in shooting mode. Though it can make a decent jpg picture this camera produces its best results in RAW mode, meaning you process jpg images on your computer instead of downloading them straight from the camera.   (Fortunately, the GX10 can produce both simultaneously, giving you the best of both worlds.) That said, if you have $600 for a K100D kit, it’s worth your while to dig a little deeper to get the solid construction and advanced features of the GX-10…. when you take it out of the box and hold it in your hand, you will realize what a great decision you made.   Get this great deal on a great camera at http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4158618
