Pentax K-x with 18-55 Lens

Tell A Friend!

I’ve long been a Pentax fan, going back to my pro photographer days when I cut my teeth using a Pentax 645 medium format camera.  I bought it because it was affordable and had a good reputation; what I did not know at the time is how much I would come to love it for its sharp images and especially the beautiful color, unlike any other I have seen.  I preferred my Pentax SMC colors to my Zeiss T* and Leica colors (I’ve had at least one of everything, LOL) and as their digital SLR line fleshed out I was happy to find that the excellent color had transitioned to their digital SLR line.  I am now proud to call myself a Pentaxian.  (See some lovely Pentax colors at my tour of Paul C. Buff, Inc.)

The Pentax K-x is one of Pentax’s most affordable digital SLRs ever and may be the very best yet, though it is not the top of the product line and other models have more features and a higher megapixel count.  The K-x is exceptional for its image quality, which a prestigious online publication just called the best in its class.

Pentax K-x in White

The Pentax K-x is available in four colors- black, white, red, and navy.  It has a lightweight plastic body and runs on easy-to-find and inexpensive lithium or NiMH rechargeable batteries.  It has a 12.4 megapixel sensor, sensor-based image stabilization, shoots at 4.7 frames per second, shoots 720p HD video, and gives you access to Pentax’s line of excellent optics.

Specs are great, but the reasons it is the Product of the Day is the image quality and the price.  The image quality is best in class, and you can get a Pentax K-x body with 18-55 lens for only $539. A two-lens outfit including the 18-55 and Pentax’s outstanding 50-200 lens is only $641.56, and an outfit with the 18-55 and the Pentax 55-300 is $774.16.  That’s great value for a camera that delivers such excellent images so easily.

I recommend Sandisk Class 6 SDHC cards if you get this camera, as well as Sanyo Eneloop batteries.  I recently recommended this setup to one of my best friends, and I am happy to recommend it to you too!
